Description
Do math like a big kid! Designed for toddlers and preschoolers, this frustration-free workbook introduces early math concepts in simple, research-based visual arrangements. The extra large layout and uncluttered pages make it easy for even the youngest learners to work with confidence and independence.Features fun, real world examples of math in action. From excavators and fire trucks, to cargo helicopters and berry harvesters, little vehicle experts will be excited to see familiar favorites and build new vocabulary.Skills covered:Counting Numbers 1-5Writing Numbers 1-5Comparing: More, Less, SamePre-AdditionPre-SubtractionBonus materials: paper cutout math manipulatives, handwriting practice, and more - look inside for details. How do professional mathematicians teach their own children? They inspire a love of math!About the authors: Elizabeth Whitman is a homeschooling mom of 5 math-loving kids, including one who began college at age 12. Phillip Whitman is a mathematician and neuroscientist. He has a Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton University.Grade level: Preparing for Pre-K. Appropriate for homeschool or classroom use. From the Introduction:•Instructions: You may notice that this workbook does not have written instructions on each page such as, "Count the cars and circle the correct number." Instead, the text is presented read-aloud style with a focus on building vocabulary and understanding of keywords. Instructions are given visually through examples. With the exception of handwriting pages, the child should circle one item in each boxed section.•Handwriting: Number writing practice pages are presented in an over-sized format to develop "medium motor" skills before moving on to fine motor skills. The first stroke is marked in black and the second stroke is marked in gray. As the book progresses, the tracing paths gradually become more narrow to encourage precision.•Bonus Materials: Reinforce and expand on the workbook concepts with hands-on activities, dot-to-dots, and extra handwriting practice. See page 203 for more details.•Track progress with the star chart on page 245. Color in the page numbers (or cover with small stickers) as the pages are completed. Every tenth page has a special star to help build number sense for large numbers.
