okWorks as advertised but I wasn't expecting it be made from plastic. Hope it holds up. The reveal gauge markings are for estimated value so as always measure your reveal on tool before marking. It’s a little awkward to use in some applications, but makes measurements and setup a breeze for trim. Get even reveals fast and easy. This tool is good but I'd like it to have bubble levels for vertical and horizontal as seen through either side. Also the push button locking device sometimes pops open when used in multiple positions on multiple doors. It should have a thumb screw to lock it down. If you are doing new work you can simply build yourself a jig for this purpose as long as you don't need to change the "reveal" values, but if you need to match existing work this tool comes into its own especially if the reveal varies from one door to the next.Marking setback for door casing...I'll just use my tape measure. Maybe I'll use the "hook" on mitered trim ends. TbdLove Jigs, anything to make work easierI’m not a trim carpenter, this layout tool was very helpful. I installed 16 replacement windows an trimmed them all using this. Each successive window was easier than the last. Worth the money.I had a bunch of window and door casings to do. I did about half of them without this tool and the other half with it. Its definitely worth the money for drawing all of those reveal lines. I didn't really use it with a tape measure as I found it to be a bit cumbersome to hold both. There were a few instances where the tool couldn't be used, like if the door is installed or if the window/door is too close to a corner. As advertised, a useful item for my framing and hobby projects at a reasonable price.... satisfied.I have only found this tool to be useful when measuring my cuts on the miter saw, it clamps to your trim and you can fairly accurately measure your cuts. When using on the actual opening, I found that nailing it in place will not always work accurately, and you will not get a good measurement. Also the edge marking is not very precise and awkward to do.For $15 its an ok tool, but nothing to write home about.is a good idea... helps a lot and makes more easy to work alone doing trim... not difficult to use and what I like more is that you can make a more consistent job..I think needs a little bit more improvement... but is good enough... if you are going to install trim and wants to make a good job is a good idea to have one of those..I was doubtful this tool would be practical or of any use but after trimming out a few rooms I now find it indispensable. This tool saves time and money as a it works like a third hand and allows you to get accurate measurements without tying up a second person to hold your tape measure. You can also get accurate miters using the marking gauge portion and it allows you to see if your board is located in the correct spot and is the correct length before nailing. With an adjustable fence for the reveal it's simple and useful. This was purchased for a Christmas present so I do not know how it will work. It looks good and was delivered very quickly. Happy to purchase from this buyer again.
